  • Unknown Raspberry Plant

    Hello Folks,
Can anyone help me here, my wife was given a very small Raspberry plant, it was about 6 inches tall, she planted it in a tub and its been growing well, its now about 6 feet tall, and grows around a frame she put into the tub when she planted them, the only trouble is, she doesn't know what she's got.
Its got an almost thorny main stem, with big leaves that are at least hand size and are basically three pronged, there appears to be a small shoot starting to grow at the base of ever leaf stem, the small growth like you get with tomatoes, I'm only asking as she's keen on keeping this plant going, but I'm thinking she needs top get it into the ground, maybe not this year, but definitely for next season.
Any and all help will be gratefully appreciated

Is it definitely a raspberry? Photos will help . Apparently you can grow them in tubs but I think they're much better in the ground and you won't get much crop off one cane if it can't spread a bit.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

If it's got no flowers on yet it's probably a summer fruiting variety. That big cane will flower next spring and give you fruit in the summer.

If it gets completely out of hand you can nip off the top, but the more you cut off the more of next year's fruit you are giving up.
