  • Summer Pruning Apple Trees

    Good morning,
is it too early to be thinking of summer pruning my trees? i would normally prune 2nd/3rd week of july.

this year we will be on our summer holidays during this time.
my trees are well on this year looking back at photos of last year and end of may first week of june the trees were still in blossom.

this year fruit has already set some trees must have over a hundred of fruitlets should i thin these out yet?

also new growth loads of it on all the trees. couple of my trees I'm trying it train as espalier trees.

    Many thanks in advance

If the fruitlets are bigger than pea size I'd go ahead and thin them just be warmed to may lose some to June drop. I thinned all mine yesterday. I haven't pruned yet, going to wait until June. But that's up to you and how much growth you have and if it's in the way

I wouldn't thin any fruit until after the June drop. Let the tree decide which ones aren't worth keeping.
Can't advise on pruning - sorry.
