  • Strawberries flowering

Strawberries are really beginning to flower now, seems too early still, but really too many to remove now, does this mean an early crop? Or will I loose them if weather deteriorates?

Some of mine are flowering too Dotty. I'm just going to leave them to get on with it.

Up till a few weeks ago, I had been removing them, but now there are almost to many, I did throw some manure pellets over them last wee, maybe that's what did it. Be nice if we had some early this year.

The ones I haven't got round to planting out from the greenhouse are in flower so have just put them into the poly in the hope of an early crop. The ones outside have yet to do a bit of catching up.

I bought 36 runners earlier this year, along with the wild white alipnes I'm growing from seed. Because they're all going in the same tubs (standard to the front and alpines to the rear) I had to put the runners in pots temporarily, but placed them in the shadiest part of the garden to slow their development and stop them flowering before they go into their permanant home. That said, they have still come on quite nicely, and I reckon the alpines are about ready to go out now (root structure always seems bigger than what's happening above the surface), so if the weather is good this weekend, they'll all go into the big planters. I don't think it'll be long after that when I start getting flowers

Mine are all in flower as well. It's not in my nature to cut the flowers off, I want to eat them soon!

we had one strawberry yesterday ..small and not quite ripe but I certainly expect the rest to be eaten by slugs before we get to them.

Mine are off as well. They're in containers, I've tied all the leaves in a bunch with garden cable ties to expose the flowers and help pollination and ripening. It's let much more light in to the fruit.

I think they do something like it on commercial farms. It's got to beat the leaves covering all the flowers eh?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
