Default Starting NON- dwarf apple trees in pots

Hi

I have another question. My other half wants a non-dwarf variety of apple tree. However, since we have no space for it now, my question is can I buy one bare rooted, plant up in an 18 in pot. Repot up every year or so and then when we reach a 30 in pot and hopefully a new house with a reasonable tree, plant up in the ground?

thanks loads

Morrris

You can grow one in a pot for a year or two.

But if you're growing it in a pot, you'll need to prune it so that it branches at 2-3ft height, if you want it to look attractive.
But if it's pruned to 2-3ft before the primary branches, it will only ever make a bush tree with a short trunk. There is no easy way that you can later convert it from having branches that start 2ft above ground into one with branches that start 6ft above ground.
