    Hi all,

ok, fruit training questions done in the other thread I will move onto my raised beds if thats ok !

I plan to have my raspberries in a bed 8ft long by3ft wide. My question is can i get two rows down the length due to it being a raised bed ??

I think that in normal beds one plants about 12" apart and 6' between rows which seems like a great waste of space to a novice gardener like me

like the pic if that helps !

Yeah no problem on the 2 rows. I had about 8 raspberry canes in half a deep raised bed measuring 4ft x 4ft so the canes were in 4ft x 2ft and strawberries in front making up the rest of the room and I had tons of fruit.
I have got some photographs on my site which explain it a little better, I can't upload them to here though because of the size of the files.

    Hope that helps,

    JJ

      Raspberries 12 inches apart?

That seems really close... my plants are 3 foot wide.

Having said that, mine aren't trained at all, so they splay out. And you'll be able to reach yours for picking without stepping on the beds, so yes you could get 2 rows.

I'd still plant 18-24" apart though, myself.

Use something like Resizr - Free Online Image, Photo, & Pictures Resize, Crop & Editing Software for MySpace to make the files smaller. It's free, quick and easy

I have a double row staggered about 18" apart.

I grow lettuce in between in early spring...
