  • Raspberry cane spacing

    Hi,
Sorry for the silly question but how far apart should I be planting my new canes? There are no planting instructions with them!
    Thank you !!

About a foot apart minimum, I have just planted some at that as I have only a small space but I think a little further is ideal, around 16inches

1-2ft apart, depending on how good the soil and how vigorous the variety.

I've found that not all raspberry canes grow successfully (I'd count on losing 1/3), so you might want to keep a few in reserve (in a pot?) to fill any gaps later in the year.

Minimum 18" between the canes and 5ft betwen the rows. Get yourself a copy of The RHS book "Fruit" by Harry Baker ISBN 0 85533 193 3 off Amazon. As cheap as £0.01 + postage

Hessayon's book is a reasonable place to start for a general-pupose fruit book, but Hessayon is certainly not the all-knowing "expert" that the book title professes them to be.
