    Problem with Stella Cherry tree

    Anyone know what's wrong with my Stella cherry tree??
    It blossoms well, cherries start appearing, but before they start growing they ripen. So its just a red stone, rather than any fruit you can eat. Any ideas why??

        Pink and white. Always blossoms well.
        Sorry, problems with my laptop's usb ports, otherwise i'd post a pic.
        But you know when the cherries start appearing (green)? Well, instead of getting bigger and then turning red, they turn red straight away. So they're inedible cos there's no flesh on the fruit. I'm thinking the tree needs more root space. That's the only thing i can think of anyway!

          It's not a Stella cherry if it's got pink flowers. I'm afraid if you bought this cherry tree that was labelled a Stella then you were duped.

              I have a similar sounding symptom on my Stella cherry tree (see right photo), but not on a nearby Sunburst cherry (left photo). Does it look familiar?



              Every cherry on my Stella tree looks like this. I don't know what the cause is, but it could be to do with the strange weather this spring during pollination and fertilisation. Clearly, the fruity tissue hasn't developed properly- they look a bit like fruit about to experience a 'June drop' . It's happened in previous years for me, but not to such an extent.

                As others have suggested, if the blossom is pink then it not a Stella cherry and probably just an ornamental.

                  Oh dear. I was searching for Stella Cherry on Google and found this thread. Had to join to say Oh dear..

                  I bought a Stella Cherry from LIDL a couple of years back, Its got fruit but they are small green ones, Some have red patches but do not look like the dark red cherries.

                  Got me wondering now what have they sold me. Cannot remember what colour the flowers were. White with a hint of pink?

                  Looking at the pictures, Cherries seem to bunch up but these are fairly sparse.

                  Will have to take a picture and see what you all think.


                  Going to have a proper look around the forum now and will hopefully introduce myself properly.
