  • Problem with my Malwina Strawberries!

    Hi everyone.

This is the first year I have grown Strawberries, some fruits have set but a few of them have leaves growing out of the fruit. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and advise if I should cut these fruits off the plant or leave them on?

    Thanks in anticipation.

I phoned Sutton Seeds, who weren't very helpfull it must be said, they said it was most likely a pollination problem and to see how it goes. Out of 10 plants 9 are producing these!

That looks horrible. What are the green blobs on what I presume is the fruit? Looks like aphids, but I may be wrong. This is what Malwina strawberries are supposed to look like Meiosis Ltd. Superior Varieties, Plant Variety Rights, Propagation / Sales / Own Use Licences, Royalty Collection

Freaky! It's the fruit equivalent of the stuffed two headed calf that used to morbidly fascinate me in a museum I used to visit as a child....

How pants for you. Can't see that they'll ever come good, I suspect you'd be better off starting afresh with some different variety.

I might be tempted to send the whole lot back to the supplier and demand a refund

These are embrionic leaf formations. I'm hoping that I get some normal fruits eventually.

Not seen anything like that before, hope it all comes good for you eventually.

How bizzare.. one of the fruit experts on here may know - may be worth either re-posting there,or I can move it there for you?

I doubt that's a pollination problem, looks like a genectic malfunction

Hi, I have grown Malwina strawbs for the first time this year and I have exactly this problem. No one can really shed any light on it and I am dying to know what happened.
Shall I keep these plants or bin them.
                              Did you find out why.
Odd that they are the same variety, cannot wait for your reply,
                              Sarah
