  • Are Privet Clippings Acid?

I shall have the pleasure of trimming my privet hedge (and that of the neighbours each side) very soon and wondered whether I could mulch my blueberries and cranberries with the shredded clippings?
If a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing to excess

Pruning or hedge chippings can be used as mulch if shredded and composted well. Fresh conifer clippings can contain plants mulch toxins, and must be composted first for at least 6 weeks to avoid leaching of chemicals such as tannins out of the woody material which can harm plants.
Pine needles: These can be used around acid-loving plants such as rhododendrons and camellias
