how big do seedlings have to be before they can be potted. I am a bit concerned that mine are a bit skinny and spindly and don't seem to have very large leaves, is there something I can do to help them become a little bit more robust !!

Seedlings normally become 'spindly' when they are 'reaching' for light. You don't say how many leaves your seedlings have/what size they are, but I'd give them more light. Just don't put them somewhere where they'll get crisped by too much direct sunlight.
