  • Pear tree help.

Hi I wonder if anyone can help. I have one of those patio pear trees, the columnar ones. The problem is that none of the leaves have opened. They started to form but then nothing. I have 2 apple trees in the same spot and they are doing fine.

what I'm wondering is will it be okay? I've scratched a little bit of the bark and it still looks green.

im not far from you susie about 15 miles but im having the same problem my conference was about to flower then the flower buds just turned black and died and is just sitting there like a stick with no leaves or nothing but my other pear williams has flower buds but is not advancing any and is just sitting there for the past fortnight my only conclusion is it has been to cold for the past month or so and our trees have payed the price i do however expect when we finally get some heat they will start to grow normally

Thanks Little I really hope so. Especially as I've just spent all my budget on lots of other fruit trees lol.

Strange, I'm not that much further south in Cumbria and my Conference has produced masses of blossom. Not sure if I'll get much fruit as there's not many insects about due to the cold.

It is weird because my apple trees which are standing next to the pear have leaves on and lots of blossom.

I had the same with a plum in a container this year. The pears and cherries have done well with lots of flowers, some apples are in flower while one apple is only just starting to get the buds to swell, I would say about a month behind the others.

The plum started to produce leaves and flowers over two months ago, but before the buds fully opened they started to get a brown tinge to the buds and leaf tips. All the flowers turned brown and fell off after a month. The plum is not looking well and with the recent cold nights has not had any growth for the past few weeks. Most buds look healthy, so I have moved it to a warmer part of the garden.

The daffodils have only just finished and tulips are now in flower. It's been a funny year so far.
