  • Peach tree present

Hey folks Hubs got a peach tree for his birthday and although my sister in law said it should be ok in the pot for about a year, its looking a bit ropey. It has lovely pink blossom but they are starting to die off. Do you think its just the move from the nursery that has bothered it? I am tempted to just plant it. Does anyone have any tips?

    Thanks

That's good news brumbird, the blossom will die off then fingers crossed if it's been pollinated, the fruits will form so just keep an eye on it. If & when the fruits form, thin the spacings out to around 5-6 inch to give the fruit room to swell without bruising.

I have a cracking spot for it - want to fan train it against a south facing fence (which isnt up yet) which i am willing to share with it (am having a bench up there) if it will give me peaches! I wont plant it this year though of there is a chance that there is fruit on the cards. In all honesty its probably just been got by frost but i will keep my fingers firmly crossed

have you started to train the branches?, they need to be sorted so that the fruit is growing on a good framework, plenty of side shoots for the peaches to grow on. I grow mine in a half dustbin, about 50ltrs, in john innes No 3, due to where I am I keep it under cover and in the back greenhouse to stop the weather affecting it. mine was an aldi £3 buy some 5/6 or more years ago and it has about 30 young fruit on it at the moment, we also have apricots and the flavour of fresh fruit off the tree is unbelievable, so good luck with it..

I havent done anything with it as yet, we got it a couple of weeks ago and its just been on the patio but it does need a plan. Its pretty upright but i reckon i could train some branches against a fence. Yours sounds ace - what a bargain!
