  • Orange spots on leaves no fruit yet...

    Hello all

I have 5 minarette trees 2 pear and 3 apples planted by previous owner... They all fruited last Autum not long after we moved in. This year the apple scrumptious has no fruit forming and strikes me a obscure leaves formation in areas

One of the pear trees Invincible has only one pear fruit forming and orange spots on the leaves

Both trees have Ladybird larvae black/orange things not as pretty as their black/red sister.

    Any ideas please....

The first one, apple tree is aphid. The second, pear tree is pear rust. Whilst these can weaken the plant and can cause fruit loss they are quite common issues that the trees should be able to overcome.

My other pear tree has also started with the orange spots today, this tree has fruit on it. Pear rust, am I correct just removing infected leaves as I find them, not putting the infected leaves in the compost? Also am I safe eating the fruit later in the year or do I also need to remove and get rid not compost?

Would it help to give the trees a feed at all?

        Thank you

Yes you are right. Remove leaves and destroy, not compost (however, don't defoliate the whole plant). In regards to fruit it depends on how bad the rust is. The fruit has always been fine on mine.

I don't know if feeding will make a difference, it is worth a try.
