  • one leaf apricot

    Help,

I have had my apricot tree for three years fruited 2nd year after purchasing from well known garden centre, we had two years of very good fruitings. Did exactly the same over winter this year moved large pot to under the extractor fan in a protected corner junction of conservatory and house, covered in fleece once buds started coming through.
I had one flower appear kept under fleece for frst protection. after weekend away removed fleece whilst sunny and all buds have died bar one very weedy leaf. And that is how it has remained for the last couple of weeks.
I saw no other plant damage due frost. no bugs or growths leakages from the tree.
    Any ideas what has happened?
As pot grown I have replaced a bucket load of soil with fresh compost with some fruit fertiliszer mixed in. thinking of pruning right back and seeing what it does then.

Don't know what is causing the problem but try the scratch test to see which parts of the tree are alive and which aren't. Apologies if you already know but if it is green under the bark it's alive, brown is dead.

I don't know why, but the combination of a Prunus variety, growing in a pot, and a mild winter, seems to be a bad combination.

I don't think the green bark scratch test is particularly reliable. Obviously if it is brown then the tree is dead, but it can be green and yet the tree may be dead or dying.
