  • Odd Shaped Strawberries

    Hi,

    As title says.
This is 2nd year growing strawberries and i'm getting more than i had last year. My problem is that most of them are really odd shaped.

    Any ideas why?

    Thanks

    J

Many of mine are odd shaped, I don't think that is a particular? problem. I tend to think that we are used to the 'perfect' strawberries we see in the shops. However home grown, even the odd shaped ones, taste so much better. You can of course always used the odd shaped ones to make jam.

        Usually caused by incomplete pollination.

last year I was told it was to do with uneven pollination caused by the bad weather and lack of insects. Mine this year are perfect and huge, but not much flavour

Also aphids or other sap-sucking insects, when the fruits are tiny, cause damage that shows as distorted fruits later on.
