  • Not so lovely melons

    Hello

We have now tried to grow melons for the last three years and have not been terribly successful.

Please is there anyone out ther with great tips for great melons.

At the moment our little melon plants seem to be in frozen animation, they have not died but they have simply stopped growing and the leaves are not bigger

We have tried different ones and this year we have a water melon suited to our climate.

We live right on the coast in Norfolk the melons are in the green house, in good compost.
    Where are we going wrong??
    thanks

    the pumpkin cuddler

It does not matter what our specific fate is as long as we face it with ultimate abandon.

What types of melons are they?
I seem to remember reading that only certain 'types' of melons will grow in the UK, and I don't think that watermelons are one of them... (anyone got their fruit Hessayon handy?)

I've got Sweetheart and Ogen romping away in my polytunnel on the Lancashire coast...

Have you grown them from seed, or bought the plants from a garden centre?

I planted two at the one time and one of them is w-a-y bigger than the other. One sits in a pot in the GH corner being trained UP a cane and the other I kind of forgot about (by accident) as it was sitting on the shelf under the potting bench....and guess which one is romping along with two baby melons on it??? Of course! The one under the bench. I think it might be becuase it likes the heat but maybe not too much sun? Only a newbie so most definately not an expert but it's interesting the difference between the two and I'm sure I read somewhere that they don't like too much sun. BTW I think they are egen if that's any help?

Are they Ogen? I've got some mine trailing and some trained - both seem to be doing fine...
