Default June drop

I have a new Coronet mini apple tree 'Red Devil' & it had two tiny baby apples on it but blow me if it hasn't just dropped one of them! I have heard of June drop when the trees drop excess fruit but surely 2 wasn't too many? It had quite a lot of blossom on it when I got it & is in a pot on the patio but maybe I was expecting too much to get fruit in it's first year?

Yes, most new fruit trees when replanted will drop all their fruit, they are busy though building up a strong root system to support the fruit next year. Just to give you an idea, I have a cordoned Queen Cox, now in its second year, first year all the fruit dropped in June - this year I have 7 apples.

I removed all the crown fruits from my apple tree a month or so ago. I have waited for June drop and will thin again in a few weeks time so that I only have one fruit per spur.

Mine said to remove any fruit leaving a maximum of 6 for the first year but I didn't get that far!
Attaching a pic. of my one remaining apple, what's the betting it will develop 'July drop' now.

In Scotland, June drop occurs in July, but we still call it June drop. Maybe as your apple trees mature you will get a better crop. My daughter has mature apple trees in her garden, she does nothing to them, but the crop is phenominal.
