  • Info needed about m26 cordon Apple varieties

    Hi all,

    I'm looking for a bit of advice on Cordon Apple tree varieties for my area North west soil type is free draining and full sun all day, 17ft row

    My list
    Greensleeves
    Egremont Russet
    Arthur Turner
    Lord Lambourne
    Reverend W. Wilks
    Falstaff
    Red Windsor
    pear Concorde

          I think on Beechgrove they are planting apples 2ft apart with 1.5ft between rows for cordons. Can't remember the rootstock though.

            Hi phil
            If you give Keepers nurseries a ring and ask for mr Habibi ( early morning ) he will give you all the advice needed.
            They stock just about every fruit tree you could wish for, and take orders now for december delivery.

              I found Andrew the Appletreeman (plantsandapples.co.uk) a very knowledgable and helpful man when choosing apples for a specific spot.

                If you are planting these on a trellis as oblique cordons, I would allow 80cm - 1m with the M9 rootstock, which is probably the best choice for cordons. On M26 they would need to be about 1m.
