  • I planted my cherry tree yesterday now it looks sick.

I recived my Cherry tree yesterday before potting it looked very nice and healthy but I am not a expert. I potted it in a 15'' pot I used John innes
Compost recommended by the garden centre.

I checked the cherry tree today it looks really bad & the leaves have started wilting with brown and black bits on the leaves. The plant pot has lots of holes in the bottoms to help with drainage.

I forgot to say I put incredicrop fertiliser in the soil
    Just like the packet said.

Please help I don't want to loose this plant as I only recived it yesterday.

      Hi & welcome!
Did you leave it out in the wind or heavy rain yesterday?

I am from the southeast of England we did not have a lot wind yesterday just strong winds.

The plant was left in the garden after planting.
I hope I have not killed my plant already

Was it in a pot or bare root when you received it?

I think it may be stressed from being repotted, then left out in the weather. Put it somewhere sheltered and give it a few days to recover.
Someone who knows what they're talking about will be along soon

I am new to this site & new to growing fruit tress. Thank you for your help.
I really hope it is just stressed and will come back.

The plant come in a small plant pot so i replanted in a 15'' pot.
I have placed something around the pot to shield from where the wind is coming
& will take this off in the morning.

I also planted a orange tree and so far this one looks fine. but it is a lot shorter
so less affected by the wind. We are meant to be having a really nice week
with not much rain & lots of sun. I really hope the sun will help the plant come back to life.

Take extra care of the orange tree as it won't like being outdoors in this weather. Its probably come straight from a greenhouse somewhere warm!

I dont have any room to have a green house in the garden right now. I have a Len to in the garden what is almost closed off to the wind on one side it has a coragated roof should I move them in there?

I have bubble wrapp around the plant pots to keep some heat in. Would you recommend covering the hole plant at night with a cover?

Fresh compost and a feed at the same time is powerful stuff. Probably too rich and risking 'fertiliser scorch' - that could be why it's droopy. It may shrivel and drop all its leaves from the 'shock' of such rich growing conditions but with adequate watering it should come back to life and grow some new leaves.

Tatty leaves could be bugs or wind. Most trees have a lot of tatty leaves by autumn. Don't worry about it and certainly don't remove them on a tiny tree unless you have confirmed that it's a disease. Small birds sometimes inspect tatty leaves in the hope of finding a bug to eat.

If I were you, I would put it in a sheltered spot and give it a good watering (no more fertiliser until the compost has lost its nutrients which probably won't be until next spring).
                    .

Is this shelter in the sun? Without knowing your location, I would say it will make it very hot. A good location with no need for cover would be up against a north facing wall. Coo and sheltered so the leaves don't lose too much water and give the roots a chance to grow.

I did not want the plants to get to cold at night. I don't have any room for a green house right now.
So thought I would try and make something like it. The shelter gets lots of Sun in the morning but as the day gets on there is less sun. I have put lots of little holes in the plastic to let some of the heat out.

If this shelter is not a good Idea I will take it off. We have had a lot of strong winds the past few days so was trying to stop it from getting wind shock.
