Default How can I get my goji berry plants to set flower?

I have two 80cm goji berry plants, which according to the seller are supposed to flower and produce fruit this year. But so far, it doesn't look like they have any intention of flowering....instead they seem determined to grow new shoot after new a magic bean trying to reach to the sky. (p.s. they are on a west facing balcony, with both plenty of light and plenty of shade).

Is there anything I can do to convince them to produce flowers instead of growing more shoots???

I would be interested in the answer to this also...a few months ago i purchased a small Goji berry, honey berry and blueberry bush form Suttons. The Blueberry has about 5 small flowers on it, but there are none on either the goji or honey berry bushes and the goji is getting quite large, with new shoots appearing almost daily! I'm not relaly expecting fruit this year bit would like to know whether it will flower.

Mine grown from seed is 3 years old and has not flowered - never, ever.

I have threatened it with weedkiller if it does not this year...

Well, goji shoots are very tasty. That is why I grow goji. You can pick young shoots, stir fry with a bit of sugar and rice vinegar - delicious. If I want goji berries, i go to Chinese supermarket to get a packet of dry ones.

Mine hasn't flowered either. There was a thread on here a few weeks ago saying that there are two strains of goji berry and most of the ones sold in this country don't flower???
Will just have to wait and see. mine is into it's fourth year.

hey guys I would like to know ho to get goji flower too (in the uk)!

We (Chinese) eat/ use the whole plant so I got my Goji plant as vegetable from Chinese supermarket. I ate all the leaves and stuck the cane in the ground a few years back and since then it grew into a bush.

Last year one of the cane grew up to 6 feet high (before the powdery mildew struck) and all the leaves fell off but since then young shoots appeared and it got back to its previous glory but still no flower

Has anyone got flower from goji?

One thing from the Chinese website : they say there are two variety - one with longer "needle" like leaves which is more hardy but you cannot eat the leaves, the other with "oblong leaves" (the one I have) where you can eat the leaves, but less resistant to disease.

I also have no flowers, my plants are about 6foot tall (3 years old I think) - grown from a seed from a dried goji berry - so hopefully that means they do flower, otherwise where would the fruit have come from!
