  • Honeyberry

Recently i bought online and took delivery of a honeyberry bush

Having done some research im wondering should i have bought 2 bushes to help with pollination.
The RHS website says you can pollinate by hand whereas other websites recommend another bush .

Has anyone else grown this fruit and how have they over come the pollination question.

As its only a 2 year old bush i am aware its not likely to fruit for a couple of years maybe

I have read from a lot of sources that they aren't self-fertile.

When I bought honeyberries, the supplier sold me a single pot that supposedly had two different varieties in it. If there are actually two in there, they're so entangled I can't really see the difference. However, my plant(s) do fruit, and have done since the first year in the ground.

EDIT: I just wanted to add that I do find the fruits quite small and also quite sharp. For me they're much more like a blackberry or raspberry than either a blueberry or honey, both of which have been used to describe "honeyberries". Starting last year I have planted a different variety, Eisbar, which is supposed to have "very large fruits". If this also produces small sharp fruit (I don't know yet since it didn't fruit in year 1) then I'd say that they're only really worth growing as a curiosity.

I've had mine a few years, and never really got a decent crop off them. They flower for ages and the bees love them though, the only real reason I've kept them.
