  • Help, Please..!!!

-----just been into my back garden to rescue a tommie plant blown over by this wind, and found my poor little blueberry bush has been wind damaged: these two new shoots broken off by the wind ......

Can I do anything with them ie cuttings .....? I've popped them into a glass of water for now ......

Yes, they should take. Remeber you need yo use the correct soil for blueberries...and maybe some rooting powder, I don't bother for my currant cuttings (I just bung them in a pot) but if you want better results it may be worth buying some.

----------having read the RHS thread Scarlet, I've potted the 'cuttings' as directed ----------

(I didn't have any rooting hormone, so used Aspirin instead......)
(Also, unbelievably didn't have any collected rainwater 'cos I'd used it yesterday to put onto blueberry bush... - so put a couple of drops of lemon juice into tap water.....)
(I HAD got ericaceous compost, but no perlite, but had got some vermiculite so used that mixed in with the compost)

Fingers crossed, one out of the four m i g h t make it ....................

I read that too, Scarlet - mixed into cooled boiled water .....but hey, guess what? Didn't have any honey lurking in my kitchen cupboard.....!

(Also read that you can use 'spit' ~ didn't fancy doing that ~ DH really would have me carted away if he walked into the kitchen and saw me licking the cuttings ............. )

Or the water that tips of willow have been soaked in (after all the active ingredient in asprin comes from willow)

My blueberry cuttings might be doing ok ~ not easy to tell .......

I took the plastic bags off, removed the fallen leaves and watered them with some collected rain water ....
I replaced the plastic bags ~ unsure if they still need to be covered, couldn't see anything in the RHS thread either ...

One of the 'cuttings' looks very healthy ~ there are a few new pale green baby leaves on the top of the cutting ...... The others look a bit like a twig stuck into compost ......
