  • Help, nasty little beetle thingy in my Blackberry flowers

    'evening all
Have just noticed on my blackberry flowers (which are starting to open now) a tiny litle beetle thingy, lots of them, about 1 to 1.5mm in length, black, narrow, can run and also fly. They are crawling around in the flowers

What are they :?: Can someone please tell me, and will they effect the fruit :?: Thanks.

Could be flea beetle if they are jumping. Do you have little holes in the leaves? Need a photo.

      Could be pollen beetles.

Thanks, I'll look up 'flea beetle' don't think my camera is good enough to photograph them they are very small. Yes they do appear to jump when taking off (Micro version of the jump jet )

Thanks, I'll look that one up as well. This blackberry was here when we moved in, last year it didn't have much fruit so I've been giving it some TLC and there are tons of flowers this year. I was anticipating a good crop but worried this little creature might have other ideas !!!!!

I am not a fruit person but learnt about the flea beetle for the first time this year but I am no expert. Norfolkgrey has lots more knowledge.

Thanks everyone Pollen beetle looks to be favorite. The RHS description and photo is pretty much what I've got, must go and check some of Mrs. Losos's flowers as they like those as well. Good thing is they don't (allegedly) effect the berries so I may have some blackberries after all

Thanks Jay-ell - I think I'm OK but was a bit worried I might loose all those lovely berries come the Autumn.
