  • goji berries

    Hi there

Can anyone give me some advice on goji berries please? Are they self fertile? Can you grow them in pots? Is there a good supplier?

T&M have them quite cheap at the mo - they do well in pots and I believe that they are self fertile, but couldn't 100% swear to it.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Flummery's son (Phantom Veg) re-hydrated some dried ones (the type I'm currently chewing on as we speak) and planted them up. I'm not sure how they're doing, but it seemed a sensible idea.

Want me to send some of these dried ones? Ingredients say "Dried Goji Berries (100%).

Will they be chewed though Wayne?

I think Phantom Veg said they probably wont fruit for five years or so, growing from seed. Probably longer if they have been chewed...
          Resistance is fertile

GYO are giving away 3 plants to new subscribers at the mo if thats any good?

PS Wayne what do they taste like? They are very expensive to buy dried, so presuming they are good?!

I've tried sucking them, but it's not the same.

Don't think I got anything as a freebie when I subscribed...

I'd say they're akin to cranberries in taste, with a slightly more sour note. Not unpleasant, but I couldn't eat a whole pack - partly because they're packed with fibre apparently, but they're also quite chewy. And they stick to your teeth with a vengence.

At last! I've been waiting for GYO to have a subscriber offer that wasn't either a book I'd already got or something I didn't want/need. No more nagging the newsagent or trailing into town to Smith's when he forgets.

I believe I said from the beginning that it was the best mag around. Anyhow after talking to the big boss I decided to change my mind, but even if I hadnt it wouldnt stop me recommending the best mag on the market.
