I planted dwarf apple, pear and plum trees in B&Q plastic buckets (with drainage) holes approx. 18 months ago. They are now beginning to blossom. Can I repot now into bigger containers or should I wait until the autumn? Any advice appreciated

Don't know if it's the right thing to do but I have always waited until autumn until they are dormant. Always came back ok in the spring and have good fruit from mine-apple, pear and plum.sigpic -
If they're in containers I'd try moving them very carefully I think it would do them good to have more space for root growth now & through the summer,if they were being moved from the ground it's better when dormant.Last edited by Jungle Jane; 07-05-2017, 02:20 PM.Location : EssexComment

It could be tricky to give them enough water for fruit to develop properly if they are potbound. I'd lift them gently to see if they are a mass of roots and if so, gently repot them.
Generally you can plant container grown plants at any time if you keep on top of watering as the root bulb stays intact (except large trees), it's the bare root ones that need to be planted in the dormant season.Comment
