  • Fruit Tree

I have got a large planter roughly 15ft long x 6ft depth x 4ft high, under one side of a pergola slightly shaded by a grape vine.
I have see apples grown on trellis but not sure if this would have a particular name. Unable to any information. Welcome any advice
    Thank you

It depends on the final shape you are trying to achieve. Corden - a trunk with short stumpy branches, espalier - trunk with several long tiers of branches, fan - fan shaped, there are double cordens and others but those are your main three. Main thing to be aware of is apple variety should be spur bearing for trained trees and the rootstock (the base of the tree you should see a graft line) is suitable for 1 - the conditions you are giving it, 2 - helps the tree achieve the final size you are after.
