all my red currant Raspberry and black currant bushes are in leaf burst and so are all my cuttings. I hope to have a good crop this year, I cannot remember if they need covering re the birds or not.

Yes they need to be covered or the birds will take all the fruit especially the Red Currants.

Yes!!!! I've got little leaves on the raspberries. Blackcurrant buds are swelling, but no leaves yet. Strawberries are starting to form new leaves - I think it's Spring

Redcurrants I got recently are covered in fresh green leaves, as are the blackcurrants and rasps.
My teeny tiny strawb seedlings are looking a litttle bit bigger.
Feels like spring to me too.

Gooseberries, loganberry and raspberries have leaves. Strawberries are also starting to sprout - I think it's almost here (Spring, that is). Peered very closely at the apple tree and the plum tree today, and there is just a hint of buds coming.

Getting a bit worried as my Raspberry canes planted in Autumn are still canes! Wonder how long to give em before I give up the ghost.

I scratched a stick with my nail (think it was a rasp but the label was written with invisible ink) to find some green but alas all i could find was brown (dead) stick. Never got round to turfing it out yesterday, but it's not looking hoping for my raspberry crop this year.

Goosgogs, redcurrants, blackcurrants and blueberries are all showing signs of life.

Bex, Mrskp, don't give up on your raspberries yet, even the ones that just look like dead sticks. If you rummage around the base of them you may find 'sucker type growths coming up around them which will produce new canes this year. My autumn canes looked like dead twigs for ages last year before they sprang into life & I also got some new canes growing up from their bases.

Thanks Sue. I've got tomorrow off, so I'll go and have a closer look then.
