  • Frozen fruit for jams and jellies?

    Silly question but is it okay to use frozen fruit (defrosted) to make jams and jellies or do you have to use fresh produce?

    I always use frozen fruit for my jams and wines. In fact the last batch I made last year was called Freezer Bottom Blend

      Absolutely fine. In fact I have to store my raspberries in the freezer cos I never get enough in one pick to make jam.

        Fantastic news. We froze 3lbs of blackcurrents yesterday but there must be another 3/4lbs on the bushes. Didn't want to use them straight away while we work out what the best recipes are for us. We've decided on blackcurrent jelly and apple and blackcurrent leather but of course the apples are not ready yet, hence freezing them.

          Yep - it's not just possible but necessary - unless you have an enormous supply of jars!

            I stewed some plums last year and then froze them. Made some jam from them a couple of weeks ago . Defrosted them then added the same weight in sugar . Worked well.
