Dual trees are exactly what they say they are, normally grafted onto a dwarf stock (so they tend to get no bigger than 6'-7' max), branches from a variety are grafted on from the two varieties, you can actually do this yourself if you know what you are doing (fruit is very easy). So what you end up is with one tree but two different fruits from the same plum family. I have seen these quite alot, they have been called family trees, and sometimes have up to 5 different varieties grafted onto them. Saves space but be wary when you prune it that you don't take it back too far and prune out one of the varieties!
