  • Deblossom or not? 2

What do you think, I have just planted a 2yr old bare rooted apple tree. Variety is Discovery, on M26 rootstock. Should I de blossom it next year, or just allow it to fruit? Or perhaps let it set just one or two? Many thanks.

Take the blossom/ fruit off. You want a strong healthy plant there is no point stressing it and the last thing you want is broken branches caused by letting it fruit.

I would leave a couple of fruit to mature (if you get any) to make sure the bush is what it says it is!

Agree with Snadger although if you bought it from a reputable fruit tree nursery it should be OK. The cheapie trees from the discount shops usually grow fine but you take a bit of a gamble with what variety it might end up or even what rootstock it's on.

Thanks for all your responses, I think I shall do as snadger suggests. The tree did come from a reliable supplier, but I will be looking forward to seeing hopefully , one or two apples

enjoy the blossom and then remove any young fruit, as said maybe letting one or two develop to check for correct type, the blossom is always a beautiful site in the spring....
