  • Cherry tree roots

We have a lovely big Bird Cherry which we want to keep as the littl'un loves it. There is an apple tree under it which I am trying to cut down (it's well manky) but the roots of the 2 intertwine. I have damaged part of the cherry root tree. The root is about 4.5" in diameter and all that has been done is scraped a bit of the "bark" of it - about 4" ssquare section, not all the way round (about quarter of teh circumference. Will the root recover? how shall I look after it? should I let it dry out before backfilling the earth? Thanks.

hmm maybe this should be moved to Feeling Fruity - mods please
