  • catch up time

I thought that with the long cold spring that we would get a much reduced yield from all our fruit, but, with regards to apples, they do seem to have caught up, the james grieve is looking as the festooned apples would, the russets are coming along nicely, and the bramleys are putting on weight and the crop is about 50% up on last year (that was a c*** summer) and I cant say anything to OH as the freezer is bulging before we even think about freezing the cooking apples, we may have to go back to wrapping each one and storing on trays as in days of old, oh well, at least we know it works..

I'm toying around with boxing some up & dropping them of @ the stables. I'm sure the horses will enjoy them.

If you or you allotment have surplus food and live near towns or cities you might find that there are local charities that would be able to use it Either to cooks meals or cakes or in the cases of food banks to give away. Sometimes the food banks only take dried items but if they have enough turnover they might take fresh fruit or veg....

in the East Birmingham area there is the narthex food bank, helping hands in Solihull, a refugee centre also in Solihull and Betel (giving skills and employment to former substance abusers) who have a cafe in one of their shops. There's probably loads more locally I haven't thought of.
