  • Brambles

Having some bramble growing in the garden, which i am removing, i thought it might be an idea to take some cuttings and try and cultivate (probably in a pot for obvious reasons) some in a controlled way. I just thought that it would be good for insects when flowering and birds when fruiting. I was just wondering if anyone else had done this and if anyone has any tips.

Or perhaps you think i'm just mad

I have left a couple of brambles growing at the back of our garden. The place I am slowly clearing and turning into a veggie patch used to be just brambles and nettles. I left some as they were out of the way and I know the fruit is safe for pies and jellies. Not mad at all.

I was recently surprised to read that there are several species of bramble in this country, which explains why some are delicious and others are not so good. Keep a couple, then if they're good you can always propagate some more - if not there's nothing lost.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

yes here's a tip: they actually root from their tips. You need to peg down a tip until it strikes roots then cut new plant from the mother plant (much like a strawberry runner)
