| I've not grown that variety but an autumn fruiting variety should be fruiting about now on new stems. In theory you should cut all the stems down to ground level in the spring and new canes will appear and repeat the process. In practice if you leave some of the canes, you get an extra (although potentially smaller) crop in summer also - I tend to do this with my autumn bliss raspberries that I have as I don't have room for autumn and summer canes and for me it's the best of both worlds. At 3', the canes do sound rather short but you don't say when in spring you planted them. They may have had a late start and it has been a rubbish summer.

| I haven't got that particular variety Grandpadragon, but I do have the yellow autumn raspberry, I think it's 'All Gold' & that has a few fruits & some flowers on it at the moment so yours sounds about right to me.Here's some advice from the R.H.S. on them through this link below. http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile...aspberries.asp

| I have several different varieties of Autumn raspberry and some have been fruiting for weeks and others are just starting to flower. Usually new canes flower a little later the first year. But I have had buckets of fruit this year. If there was one thing I could grow, it would be an Autumn raspberry, worth their weight in gold. You are in for a treat. |

| I bough 6 canes of JoanJ Spring last year. One of the canes didn't grow, but we got a small crop off the remaining 5. We made the mistake of planting them alongside the greenhouse, and (I assume attracted by the warmer soil) have suckered into the greenhouse. It wasn't a problem until after we had put the tomatoes in the greenhouse. It's a problem we shall have to sort out later this year when we clear the tomatoes out, but at the moment we are picking loads of tomatoes, and about a pound of raspberries a day, which I don't think is a bad return from 5 canes. We have been picking raspberries from the plants in the greenhouse for several weeks, and the ones outdoors for about three weeks. JoanJ is the first Autumn fruiting variety I have grown, but based on my experience I would thoroughly recommend it. The fruits are very large with a wonderful flavour, and, an added bonus, although the outdoor canes are not netted, the blackbirds are leaving them alone. valmarg |
