Apple Tree Roots Hello, wonder if someone can give me some help. I've a Cox's orange pippin in my lawn (it was there when I moved in two years ago) not sure how old it is, the trunk is 10 inches in circumference and height is roughly 6 and a half feet.
We are planning on having a new lawn layed and would like to know if the roots to apple trees are very deep rooted or shallow and do they spread very far. I don't want some bloke rotovating and killing my tree.
Thanks Dreamer

Roughly the roots will extend as far as the branches ( and it is only rough)they will be closer to the surface the nearer you get to the trunk (a lot of folk hit them with the mower them where they break the surface!!!) so I would be reluctant to let anyone loose with a rotavator near it as they may damage the roots & let an infection in or if we have another hot summer next year it could hinder the plants uptake of water & food - either way it's not good news.
