Default Anyone use a strawberry stack-a-tub?

Like this one.. Dobies: Strawberry Stack-A-Tub: A great value way to grow strawberries on your patio

I'm debating whether to give strawberries a go in the garden, but they would have to be in pots and I thought these looked quite nice, but they are pricey. Are they worth it?

to be honest strawberries grow pretty much anywhere ive found, if you want to have a similar effect just use 3 differant size pots, large at the bottom filled with compost, then a smaller one on top and so on and fill the inside edges with your strawberries and you still have the tower effect, good ole wilko, poundland, etc are selling pots at very reasonable prices at the moment, and you can plant 3 differant varieties so you can have strawberries through out the season. type in strawberries in the search thread, there are a few ideas from other grapes on what to do with strawberries

We use 3x 25 gallon plastic oil drums that Pigletwillie gave us last year for strawbs in the back yard, have to say they did exceptionally well, and the first flower has now set on one of the plants this year, I cant wait to be eating fresh strawbs! Mmmmm!

The oil drum has had 9 openings cut into it and been planted up, a pipe fitted down the center with drilled holes for watering, and its every bit as good as a proffessionally bought planter, but was free!

I've often wondered about growing strawberries in containers. Do you have to turn them so that all the plants receive equal amounts of sunlight? Sorry, I know that's a really daft question

i only turn the pot when the flowers are just starting to turn to strawberries i thought it was to help them ripen and make them nice and plump seems to work for me, i do have them in pots but they do grow much much better in the ground

Wow I love the idea of the oil drums and know exactly where I can get some free. Will give it a go.

Does the soil not fall out of the holes ?

Also was it difficult to make the holes.
