  • Anyone tried PineBerrys?

I bought a few plants from Wisley, just for the curiousity factor of growing white Strawbs. Said to taste like pineapple ( having trouble imagining a strawb that tastes of pineapples!)
Anyone grown these or tasted them?

I bought four of these this morning but they are new to me, not tried them before. I'm making a planter from a pallet tomorrow so I'll pop them in there and see how it goes

I know people say to cut off flowers and runners in the first year but I'll be damned if I'm waiting for two years to try them!

I've never done that before, I just let them go. I def want to eat them as soon as possible so there will be no messing around here this year!

I bought some last year - they flowered but only produced one puny little pineberry that shrivelled up before I could taste it
Lots of runners though, so I've potted them up and they are flowering. Just hope I get to taste one this year

Yeah, I found I didn't get much fruit, and what little fruit I did get was very small. I kept a handful of runners this year though, so I guess I'll see how they do this year.

I have 24 tiny plants taking up the shady sides of my strawberry planters, and another 18 tiny plants that I'm bringing on individually in small pots. All these are from seed this year, so I haven't had chance to taste any yet

i have maybe dozen types of the pineberry type strawberries and they very greatly in flavour, and cropping, some can be quite bland and almost insipid, some have amazing flavour, ill have a check but i think it was white D or Bianka that had some of the best tasting berries and better cropping than some of the other sorts, also good runner production for even more strawberries next year

I grew these last year from seed and got loads of fruit from approx 6 plants: Wild White Strawberry Seeds - Suttons Seeds and Plants

I've sowed some more this year for the Allotment

Quick update, Leave Pineberrys untill they're very ripe as that's when the Pineapple flavour develops. I just tried a "Just Ripe" one from the same plant and it tasted more like a normal strawberry no hint yet of Pineapple.
                            Why are things so complicated?

I'm miffed. I bought 2 plants at a local museum garden plant sale. Both have bright red strawberries on them. Whilst they're tasty they're not what I paid for and I have more strawberries than I know what to do with anyway.
