Where there are ants, there are usually colonies of aphids.

Some types of aphid (such as those known as "cherry blackfly") can make a twisted mess of cherry leaves and shoots.

I suggest an urgent inspection of your tree, before a few small colonies of aphids manage to grow rapidly in this mild weather and within a week or two, they can turn your cherry tree into a shrivelled, twisted and stunted eyesore.

If you find some of these aphids have a look at the thread I started on cherry blackfly - there are various ways described on how to solve the problem.

        I have this precise problem!!
I posted a thread about it in fact; i can't see any evidence of aphid damage at all, my tree looks so healthy. Its a real dilemma what to do as I don't really want to go down the pesticide route...

          My solution:

          Don't grow cherry trees.

It also saves you getting pelted with pips that the birds drop from your roof and form the mess of the stained bird poo all over the washing and the car.
