  • Aldi Fruit trees

18 months ago I bought 8 fruit trees for £3.99 each and potted them into big Morrison's pots using home made compost.

    We had
    2 Stella Cherries
    1 Morello Cherry
    1 Golden Delicious Apple
    1 Bramley Apple
    2 Opal Plum
    1 Victoria Plum

1 Morello Cherry gave us quite a few cherries this year - I made this into Sour Cherry Jelly.
The Plums did beggar all but look ill - but then again so did lots of plums this year.
The Golden Delicious didn't produce any fruit but I used a cutting to graft onto some rootstock in May and that's taken nicely.
the Bramley has produced about 10 apples, bearing in mind I am growing it as an Espalier and cut off most of the branches I'm quite pleased. I did notice that the Bramleys were turning red though, so it's definitely not a Bramley.

I've just picked the first one and it's nice and sweet. So - not even a Bramley!

Ho humm - I was going to use it to graft others on so I'll graft some Bramley on over winter and hope it takes.

*carries on munching the first apple.

Has anyone else had success with Aldi trees bought last Spring?

I bought a Bramley a few years ago from LIDL - that one went red too
I didn't buy any fruit trees last year or this, from the cheapy stores but I have several plums, pears, apples and a cherry from earlier years. Apart from a few cherries, none of them produced anything this year Its been a dismal year for fruit here.

I've just mulched all mine hon. I got them in later than yours but I've had a few plums on the Victoria. Mine are putting on growth but no fruit this year, although I didn't expect they would. The pear died. You know the one that you saw...although I pruned the dead out, it never recovered. Who wants pears anyway
