  • advice on plum tree

Ive been in a property a year and inherited a plum tree. It seems to have done well up til recently when it has grown lots of green hard plums. Should it have matured by now ready for ripening or am i being impatient?

Hi Stokie, welcome to the Vine. Could you add your location to your profile please? As for your plums, if you're in the UK you have a while yet before they ripen. My Victorias are still green - I usually reckon to pick them in August.

We've an unknown purple one and they have a slight softening to them. A few weeks off yet.

Its usually mid to late august in sunny sheffield when mine ripen, although this year they look a couple of weeks early, and hopefully, all this rain will swell em up.

            You lucky lucky thing.

Some plums and damsons aren't ready for a good while yet.

I picked some at work this week, and boy they were good. Opal and Cherry plums they were - the Opals were amazing. Can't wait until the King of the Damsons is ripe though - that is a sublime taste to behold and well worth early morning scrumping sessions just as the mornings start to get crisp. YUMMY
