as long as it's on soil, they'll find you.
They'll find you on concrete too, but it'll take a bit longer.
If you do decide to buy some, they're brandling worms or tiger worms and they are sold by fishing shops...

They will find their own way into your compost providing you use the right mix of compost ingredients re; greens and browns and keep it neither too dry nor too wet.

Dig a small hole in a bit of unused garden, fill it with some hos muck, and water, then cover it with soil. In a couple of weeks dig it up and it should be teaming with em... i used to do this when i went fishing, years ago.

As well as the usual good green/brown mix, the worms like to have a nice bed of shredded paper in the heap ~ provide that and you'll see numbers increasing

btw, earthworms aren't the same thing, so don't be tempted to dig them up and try to add them
