  • Wormery advice

    Hi all,

I have decided I am going to build a wormery. Firstly because I am not paying £50+ for a new one and secondly I have noticed from walking in my local area that there are 2 plastic boxes thrown in a hedge that I could make good use of. (I am a sucker for anything free)

I would like to know how big to make it. (how many boxes to get) I do not have enough room for a compost bin in my small garden so the wormery would be my only source of compost. Also once the wormery is up and runnng how long does it take the worms to make me a container of compost? 6 weeks? 6 months?

Also will I need to dilute the worm tea for my plants or can i use it neat?

    Thanks in advance!

The liquid feed will need to be diluted 1 part feed to 10 parts water. And i don't think it's advisable to use worm castings as straight compost. It's more of an improver and fertiliser.

      This might help

A wormery takes up as much floor space as a (taller) dalek. Well mine does

sorry guy i need help (really!!! i always need help) about my wormery...because the wheather is not as good and my 1 month and half old wormery it seem to go very slowly... i know that but my question is: i've been feed them once a week with some veg scrap from the restaurant ( like some salad leaves that are dark or a soft carrots or a little mouldy courgette, peeling, etc) and some eggs shell plus some bit of fruit at home but in small portion ( 200-300 gr of food) but everytime i lift the lid and shift all the paper the food is still there after 3 weeks... now i stop to feed them but i know that they are eating because i can found on top of shredded newspaper some worm casting... is this normal? i know they have 3l of coir bedding to eat as well.. any advice is helpfull
