    Rotted Compost: Use In Containers?

    I have 3 compost bins at the allotment. One has been well rotted and covered for 3 years. It is good quality stuff.

    Is this stuff ok for putting in large containers to grow plants in? i.e. I want to put a weeping willow into a large 50l pot. Would the tree grow well enough in this garden compost, provided I add some fertiliser? Or should I just buy a MP compost?

    I obviously wouldn't use the garden compost for seed sowing or cuttings.

    Don't grow anything permanent in mpc, it's too light and fluffy. John Innes mix No.3 is the kind of thing you need

      I've found that MPC is a good growing medium for my permanent pots, TS.

      I was thinking of using the compost bin, err, compost because money is tight.....good quality compost (John Innes) is too much of a luxury.
