Default Protect your self and grow your own

We are always hearing about the benefits of eating more fruit and vegetables. Now with more and more supermarkets washing, chopping and bagging people’s vegetables for them as a way to make further profits, I was interested to read that In Ontario, more than 500 people were stricken recently with salmonella poisoning after eating contaminated bean sprouts.
Strawberries, green onions and pre-washed salad mixes have been implicated in recent North American outbreaks of hepatitis A, E. coli and salmonella.

Contaminated bean sprouts

Growing your own it seems can protect you in more ways than just getting fresher vegetable to the table with more goodness locked in.
Sprouted Mung Beans are so easy to grow that from sowing to cooking it is just a matter of a few days, another benifit of sprouting your own seeds is that a packet of seeds costs less than your first pack of supermarket pre packed.
Bean sprouts would also be a fantastic introduction to growing your own for young children.
Happy eating Jax
