    Project finally finished

    Hi,
    Have just finished making a compost tumbler. I just need to know if anyone can envisage any problems with it or is anyone also doing a project.

      Exactly Ollie, I made it just wide enough to get wheelbarrow under it so have to centre the barrel slightly.

              Looks good,does it have any ridges etc inside to agitate the mix or will the mix just slide as you turn?

                How much did it cost you to make, and what did you make it from? They sound a really good idea, but the ones from the garden suppliers are horrendously expensive. The theory is spot on - keep mixing the compost and it will rot down quicker.

                  Thanks for the comments. Pies - yes I have put rods through fastened with nuts on both the inside & out hopefully to mix it. Rustylady - all in all it cost me around £20, £10 for the barrel & around £10 for the timber, wheels, hinges etc.

                    Excuse my ignorance but................unless you fill it with the door at the top, surely you will only be able to fill it 1/4 full?

                          brilliant! , you've thought of pretty much most things. What's the height to the top?

                            It rotates,the door could be top, bottom or anywhere in between

                              Snadger ----the position of the door was purely for photo, the door will be at the top when filling.
                              Redthorn --- It's about 4'6"to the top but can be made any height you want, I'm over 6' so needed it fairly high to save my already old back, plus I had to take into account room underneath for the wheelbarrow.
