  • paths between veg beds , how to make

    Hi
need some advice, I am about to set out an area at the top of the garden for growing fruit and veg. I want to make some walkways between the beds. At the mo im having some home improvements done and have some old viynyl floor covering, would it be possible to use this as a base for the path, topped with gravel or bark. I also have some gravel from the old drive, which could be used too.
Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks a lot.

    Hi Tixy

I'm a novice so expect some better answers from the others than mine. But...

I would have thought floor Vynyl (sp) a good option as long as there is some run off either side for rainfall. I used the black membrane stuff which is porous but still lets some weeds through. Vynyl could be better as there is not a hope of something growing through it. You will need to border it with something (I used wood planks with stakes to hold it) so that the gravel doesn't just slide away.

I hope that helps a little

    BTW welcome to the vine

I have old grass seed bags (similar to porous membrane) covered by woodchippings. Both were free, so as I have many metres of paths, I am well pleased.
The vinyl wouldn't allow water through it and if put on a slope to solve the drainage problem I would imagine the woodchips would eventually finish up at the lowest point by sliding down the vinyl?

I would also think it may make it a bit dangerous to walk on?

Best idea would be to try a small portion and see if it works!
