  • Oodles of leaf mold

    Hi

I have loads of this stuff as I work on the edge of a forest and I collect
loads of leaves in plastic bags to take to my lottie. I build one huge
cage made of wire mesh and leave it for a year. It seems to break down
quite nicely. It might help that the weight of all these leaves quashes
them together and speeds up the fungal breakdown. Just a hypothesis.
Now I know that leaf mold has little nutritional content but it is a
great soil conditioner. Is it ok to layer on my veggie patches??. I did
it for the first time this autumn and supplemented it with some fish, blood
and bone. The peas, broadies, onions and garlic seem to like it but time
will tell. Does it encourage a more healthy soil as it is alive with creepy
    crawlies etc.
I think you have to careful adding fertiliser to this stuff! I have probably
    dont the wrong thing.

    Cheers for any input.

    Shush
