    Method of water collection?

    Can someone advise me on the best method for collecting water? There is so much of it currently falling from the sky it seems a bit daft that I am filling my watering can from the tap.

    Is there a good manufacturer of devices that collect water without letting leaves etc. in?

    I only have £30 maximum to spend.

    After doing a bit of research I've found the thing I'm looking for is called a water butt.

    Is there a company that makes idiot proof ones?

      Welcome to the vine, there are many different designs of water butts on the market. Some folk use blue food barrels, or even old dustbins. If you are saving the water at home, it may help if you get a rainwater diverter kit to attach to your drainpipe. This then diverts water from your gutters into the water butt. You will need to put an overflow hole in the top of the butt or simply link more butts together.

          I don't know where you live, lazyrolla (could you add your location to your profile please) - but try your local council or water company. They often sell water butts at subsidised prices. My council charge £20 for one with stand, tap, diverter etc.

            I'm spending a little more than £30 . . . this is what I'm building . . .

              I got the 100 litre slim water butt from Wickes, I think it was about £20. It filled up really fast and I kind of wished I'd got a bigger one (like I was advised on here but didn't listen!), having said that I only have a small garden so I'll see how we go.
