My boys were playing in the woods recently and came across a dead tree. The tree had rotted inside and was full of rotted leaves. They brought me back a bucketfull, it is quite brown but smells good, earthy and damp, and looks fine and crumbly. Would this be good for a seed bed or would it be better dug in to my beds ? (there is lots still in the woods!)
They are also a dab hand at finding forgotten rotted haybales too!

I'd dig it into the beds. But you'd better check that it is allowed in by-laws to remove dead wood/leaf mould. It isn't in the New Forest for example and the conservation groups don't like it happening.

Most certainly not in the New Forest!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think we own the woods although I am not really sure!
I have sown some lettuce seed in the stuff and they are coming up quite happily so hopefully it will be ok....
