| Anyone know whether I can compost sawdust. My son has recently got two gerbils, they need sawdust in their cage as it allows them to dig and mimics their natural environment. However I know that wood and shavings is not ideal for composting (I am led to believe it initially uses up nitrogen whilst decomposing). Does anyone know whether sawdust is any easier to compost as I hate throwing away so much biodegradable waste!! |

| yes it should be fine in the compost bin and it will be class as a carbon element in the process. For reference all brown waste ie ; wood , cardboard , paper are know as carbon and anything green provides the nitrogen and the mixture in your compost bin should be 2 parts carbon and 1 part nitrogen to rot well .
